Acids, Neutrals and Alkali Experiment

the first thing we did was make an indicator which is water mixed with purple cabbage, we then experimented a little bit with vinegar and baking soda and worked out that vinegar makes bases and baking soda made bases. but for some reason we couldn't make a neutral.
Acids are Reds, Oranges, and dark Yellows, Neutrals are Yellows, Greens, And Baby Blues, and Bases are Purples, Pinks, Blues and Dark Greens. We made Black, Dark Blue, Green, Light Blue, Red, Pink, and a double layered Purple and Turquoise.

Algae In The Tukituki River

                                     what is causing the Algae to grow

The Tukituki River is different to others around the country because phosphorus is the main cause of the slime and algae seen in the river. research has shown that if the amount of phosphorus in the river is reduced, it will it will stop the slime and algae from growing. This will give us a more attractive river for swimming, fishing and other recreational activities, not to mention it will make it healthier for us to drink. Other things causing the slime and algae include the amount of light reaching the streambed and the amount of frequent floods in the river.

                    what can we do to stop polluting the rivers

 some things we can do to reduce the Phosphorus and make our water healthy again include,keeping stock out of the water. New stock exclusion rules will reduce the amount of sediment, bacteria and pathogens entering the water. beef and dairy farming must take a fair share of the blame.

Electromics Final Presentation Rm 11B Hollie

Problem - the Get Ready Get Thru website says that we need an emergency survival kit and top of the list is a torch and spare batteries.

At electronics i am going to design and make an emergency light for myself.

Furnware Room 11

Earlier this term room 10 - 11 and 12 went on a trip to furnware (since we were so good on our last trip) to learn more about innovation. first of all when we got there we were seperated into our classes, room 11/us went to the design room first, to design a table. room 11/us were separated into 5 groups (since we had 25 people in our class today) and together we had to design a table in our groups and the best table will be made for the class that designed it. secondly we went to the warehouse and we were separated into 3 groups. first we went to the warehouse to see where everything was manufactured and made. we got to see all the super cool robots that did welding and bent the steel, it was SOOOO cool. we then went to see all the finished products and where was were powdered/ painted and lastly we went to see where they were stored into shipping containers to be transported internationally.

Redskin Writing

Hello, lately in room 11 we have been working on persuasive writing, but nobody was doing their work properly. so Mr Billings said to us that we have to write a piece of persuasive writing about why we deserve redskins, and if it is good he will give us redskins (he doesn't have redskins so he is going to give us mentos).  so basically he is bribing us to do our work which isn't something a teacher SHOULD do but we are getting lollies so we don't care. here is my writing about why i deserve redskins (mentos)

I think i deserve redskins, why wouldn't i. It's not like i talk ALL of the time during work.

Redskins are amazing and everyone wants them, but not everyone will get them. I want to be one of the people who does get one.. Or 2...or 3… or better yet, a whole packet.

Why do i deserve redskin(s)

Ok , so i'm not going to lie i do talk and muck around sometimes, but i still complete my work.

Mr Billings i know you don't want to admit it because you don't want to give your precious red skins away but i do usually end up completing my work. And if i don't i usually make up for it at home and do it then. The other reason i deserve redskins is because i am awesome. And how could you not give redskins to an awesome person?

Proof that i deserve redskin(s)

What is some proof? Well, i love writing so whenever we get giving a writing task like writing narratives and stories, i ALWAYS do it. No, i don't like maths but i do want to grow up to be at least a little bit smart. I concentrate as hard as possible during maths but my brain is very small so i get confused very easily. And when it comes to reading, i love reading but i always forget to bring my glasses so i just have to do my best. It might seem like i am coming up with excuses but i'm not. Ok so i am, now that you know, are they working?

Why do i want redskins(s)

Why do i want redskins, well there are four reasons i want redskins. 1. Just the thought of lollies makes me SUPER happy and excited which means i really want them. 2. They taste AMAZING. If a candy cane and a piece of strawberry chewing gum had a baby, this is what it would taste like. 3. My mum is making me go sugar free starting next month so until then i am going to eat my heart out with sugar. And last but not least No.4 . as you may know, i am a psychopath and i like to eat skin, like a vampire. So watch out... (i'm just kidding)

I think that redskins were made so that you could give them to me. And i know that when i can't do what i was made for doing, i get really sad (Hint Hint). Overall i think you should give them to me. Earlier on in this piece of writing i mentioned my work being good, well i think this master piece of writing is red skin material as well, don't you????

i love redskins so i tried my hardest to write an impressive peice of persuasive writing but i am not very good at persuading people so fingers crossed i get some redskins/mentos. thanks for reading, bye.

Room 11 Maths

Hello again, i am writing to tell you about the maths we started doing in room 11. so... at the beginning of this week Mr Billings broke the very tragic and disappointing news.... we are starting to learn Algebra. i (personally) hate maths, i have never rally been sure why i hate maths though. it is either because i use my brain too much, or im just too stupid to do it and i don't want to make a fool out of myself when i get an answer wrong. whenever my sister comes home from schhol she comes outn to the lounge to do her homework and she says to me "hollie, do you want to do my maths homework for me" and i say
"ok" thinking it will be easy stuff, but when i look at it i see all of these Xs and Ys and my mind just goes blank. i have dreaded doing algebra ever since my sister first came home with her first algebra assignment, and when Mr B told us, i honestly thought i was going to burst into a screaming fit. luckily though, we are only doing beginners algebra at the moment and so far, i am understanding it. its not that bad (yet). if you are younger then me, then  you should brace yourself for the year you have to start algebra, and if you are older than me... i am terribly sorry.

Room 11 Term 2 Writing

YAY we are back at school and learning again, isn't it exciting. in room 11 this term, we are learning on some new things in writing. this term we are learning about paragraphing, conjunctions and persuasive writing. i wrote a story about cyber - bullying. if you want to read it then keep reading. it is a piece of persuasive writing about how cyber bullying should NOT be allowed... here is the story.....




Cyber - bullying is a serious matter that needs to be dealt with, and it needs to be dealt with NOW!!! I am sick and tired of all the bullying that happens it happens everywhere; at school at home maybe even your neighbors bully you. Bullying is bad but cyber - bullying is 10x worse.

People can hide behind their anonymous profiles and internet usernames. All that shows is that THEY ARE COWARDS. Usually people bully because of their own insecurities and sometimes it's even just for fun. Bullying disgusts me, it is a terrible, terrible thing to do and it needs to be stopped.

People all around the world try to stop bullying but it's not like anyone listens. People need to know that what they are doing to these poor innocent people is UNACCEPTABLE i have seen previous news stories about poor young girls that have committed suicide because of cyber - bullying. I want those bullies to know that even by hiding behind they're cowardly and fake internet profiles, YOU WILL GET CAUGHT.

food tech - 2017

We had so much fun in food tech last term. the main thing we did was mama Mia pizzas, technically what they are is normal pizzas bubt really big and cool designs my design was a "taijtu" its a circle with a squiggly lone through the middle with 2 circles on either side of the line.

 we started planning the pizza at the beginning of the year when we first started food tech. but before we made the mama mia meal pizza we made a mama mia snack pizza. the difference between the two is that the snack pizza is small with no design and the meal pizza is big with a cool design.

this is when we had finished rolling and making our pizza dough. we had garic in ours. we were now makint the stuffed crust. it was filled with BBQ sauce and grated cheese.

this is when we were adding the galmon, i was brushing the flour off of my hands.

only 60 seconds left until we had to put them in the oven and we ealised we had forgotten the garllic. OH NO.

this was our designs VS our final product. it didnt turn out quite how we wanted, but it tasted REALLY good.

The Great NZ Road Trip

in room 11  for inquiry we have been working on something called The Great NZ Road Trip it is on a website named prezi. it is about things in new Zealand, for example things like  animals, history and tourist attractions. the plan was that we would work on it each week with a new topic but we got far too busy with other things to do. unfortunately i cant take a photo of it so here is a link that you can have so you can check it out.

hi,  in room 11 we did some more art, this time we made sculptures. we got the idea off a famous new Zealand sculptor named Iosefa Tupuanai Leo we made our sculptures based an an emotion my emotion was sadness. this is what mine looks like...

In room 11 we have been working on our Mihi's. A mihi is a Maori way of telling people things about you like your family, Where you were borne, That kind of stuff. This is my mihi...
